The corona-virus came as a surprise to many, some Kenyans called it “ugonjwa ya masonko” (the disease of the rich) and others thought of it as a myth. This perception led to an increase in the spread of the virus. The women who are a strong backbone of the society felt enough is enough which led to the birth of a two-day community sensitization on the COVID-19 event by Kwale Women of Faith Network on 11th and 12th June in Msambweni sub-County and Matuga sub-county.

The Kwale WOFN network has been on the forefront in the fight against the pandemic with the assistance of the area village elders who have been of great support.”

The women took the opportunity to create awareness on the Covid-19 pandemic with the use of Public address system, the banners as well as the posters. The Kwale WOFN network has been on the forefront in the fight against the pandemic with the assistance of the area village elders who have been of great support. This culminated in distributing of masks and sanitizers to the communities.

The Inter- Religious Council of Kenya, Women of Faith Network in Kwale in partnership with Mensen met een Missie (MM) and Kenya Community Support Center (KECOSCE) felt it was important to support the Women of Faith to hold a sensitization meeting to educate the community the guidelines given by the Ministry of Health like social distancing, wearing of masks and proper hygiene to keep the disease at bay. During this period of the pandemic, most people have been affected and a message of hope by the women encouraged them to push forward.
